Getting help with RunFast for iPhone.

Getting started

Onboarding takes about a minute: your name and age, how fit you are right now (a recent race time, or a self-rated level), how much you're running, which days you can train, and your goal. Tap Build my plan and RunFast generates the whole plan, week by week, with a target pace range for every session.

Frequently asked

Does RunFast track my runs with GPS?

No. RunFast plans and logs your training; it doesn't record it. Use your watch or whichever tracking app you like, then complete the planned session from Apple Health with one tap, or type in the distance and time yourself.

Can I use miles instead of kilometres?

Yes. RunFast picks kilometres or miles from your iPhone's region the first time you open it, so if you're in the US you'll see miles and min/mile without doing anything. To change it, go to the Profile tab → Units. Everything switches straight away, including plans you've already built, which don't need rebuilding.

One deliberate exception: track repetitions stay in metres in both settings, so a session reads 6 × 800 m either way. Running tracks are 400 m the world over, and that's how the workout is meant to be run.

Where do the paces come from?

From your current fitness, using Jack Daniels' VDOT model. RunFast estimates your VDOT from a recent race time (or your self-rated level), then derives Easy, Marathon, Threshold, Interval and Repetition paces from it. Profile → Your training paces shows all five.

Why did RunFast offer to complete a run I didn't tell it about?

If you allow Health access and you've recorded a run today that matches the day's planned session, RunFast offers to fill it in for you. Tap Not now and that particular run is never offered again.

Do I have to give it access to Apple Health?

No. Everything works without it: you'd just log runs by hand. Access is read-only and RunFast never writes anything back to Health. You can change it in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → RunFast.

My plan doesn't suit me any more. Can I start again?

Yes. Profile tab → New plan builds a fresh plan; the old one is deactivated. Delete all data deletes your profile and all plans and takes you back to onboarding.

Can I back up or move a plan?

Yes. Profile tab → Export plan writes the plan to a file you can keep or send on, and Import plan reads one back in. An imported plan becomes your active plan.

What does a deload week mean?

Every fourth week, RunFast cuts your volume by about a quarter so your body can absorb the training. It's marked Deload on Today and in your plan. It's deliberate: don't try to make the mileage up.

Which devices does it need?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later.

AI Coach

AI Coach is an optional subscription. Everything else in RunFast works without it.

What does the AI Coach do?

After each run you log, your coach looks at it with a summary of your training, reads your note if you wrote one, writes you a short note back and suggests whether to adjust the next days. You preview any change to your plan before it applies. At the weekend it asks how your week went and gives advice for next week, and it checks whether your race target is still realistic.

How do I start it, and what does it cost?

Tap Try AI Coach in Profile, or Try it free when Today offers it. It's a monthly or yearly subscription, with the first month free for an Apple Account that hasn't subscribed to it before; the App Store shows the price where you are. Once you've subscribed, you turn the coach on yourself, and nothing is sent before you do. Subscribed on another iPhone with the same Apple Account? Tap Restore purchases.

What does the coach see?

The run you log: its note if it has one, its planned and logged distance and pace, its effort and how it felt. Around it: the distance, pace and effort of your recent runs, your past weeks' totals, your goal and predicted finish time, your plan's phase and week, an age band, and the app's language and units. Never your name, exact age, dates, the notes of earlier runs, any device identifier, or Apple Health data beyond the distance and time of a run you completed from it.

Profile → What the coach sees shows the exact data. Switch off Send to my coach when you log a run and the coach isn't asked about it. The privacy policy says where it all goes.

What if I mention pain?

The coach suggests easing off for the next two days, and the card asks you to see a physiotherapist or doctor if the pain persists or gets worse. Its notes are written by AI from your runs and your plan, and they aren't medical advice.

How do I turn it off or cancel?

In Profile, Turn off stops the coach: anything not yet sent is deleted, and nothing more is sent. Turning it off doesn't end the subscription. Cancel that with Manage subscription in the same place, or in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Nothing is sent while a subscription has lapsed either.

My coach didn't answer.

When it can't be reached, because you're offline or it's busy, the card on Today says Couldn't reach your coach and offers Try again. Your run is logged either way.

Still stuck, or found a bug?

Email [email protected] with your iOS version and what you were doing. Bug reports and feature requests are both welcome.

Privacy

RunFast collects nothing unless you opt in to anonymous usage analytics or turn on the AI Coach subscription. Without the coach, your training and health data never leave your iPhone; with it, a summary of each run you log and each weekly check-in you fill in goes to the coach. See the privacy policy.
